If you know me, you might know how I truly love to take communion. I love to read how Jesus and His disciples sat around the table together to eat the Passover- remember the Passover is the remembrance of how the death angel passed over the homes of all the Jewish people that had applied the blood of the lamb over their door post, above and on the sides. They stayed safely inside their homes, they ate the Passover lamb. here you have a picture of the blood and body of Jesus! Afterwards, they they quickly left Egypt, they took the unleavened dough with them as they had no time to add the yeast and let it rise. That unleavened bread represented them leaving Egypt (another picture of the world) without sin as the lamb had been sacrificed and the blood applied.
Thousands of years later, everyone in Israel was preparing for the feast of unleavened bread including Jesus and His disciples. Jesus told them where they would go to celebrate on that Thursday night. The symbolism is very powerful – Jesus Himself is the bread that came down out of Heaven and He is the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world.
Jesus of course knew that Judas would betray Him, He knew they would come to arrest Him and but most importantly He knew he came to lay down His life. He was showing the Disciples that the Passover was all about Him delivering the people from all sin for all time. Egypt was a picture as was the ark. Later they would remember all He taught them. It’s so beautiful – our Jesus, our Prince and King cares so deeply for us!
So, when I take the communion, I try to picture sitting with Jesus during that Passover dinner, He looked into each ones face with such love, knowing they all would leave Him, one would deny Him and one betray Him but all would leave because He alone was the sacrifice.
The blood is very interesting, I remember when I was first was born again, meaning I accepted Jesus as my Lord and Savior, and I was studying Scripture I was really grossed out by all the blood that was shed in the old Testament but it set me on a course to find out why the blood was so important! I didn’t know God the Father that well early on but I did know there was a reason for all the spilled blood. Animal sacrifice was not new. so I set out to discover – what is the importance of the blood? In pagan religions blood is seen as drinking someone else’s power, or it was a sacrifice to make a god happy. 6,0000 years ago people took the lessons of God and tailored them to make it fit their beliefs but Gods ways are sure and true and have stood the test of time.
I discovered so much I really could write a book but for the sake of this blog I will sum up some very important points.
There is life in the blood! Without blood there is no life! Without blood there is no forgiveness of sin. God sacrificed the first animal to cover Adam and Eve and to forgive their sins. The innocent for the guilty. Jesus was there in the garden with them. His love has stayed the same through all time!
Scripture says that when Cain killed Able his brother, Abel’s blood cried out to the heavens for vengeance. Jesus is the One who came to redeem all blood for all time. you see we now know that your DNA tells a story of who YOU are, you are distinctly you and no one can take your place.
so remember when you feel condemned. Remember He Himself paid the price. He emptied Himself out at the garden, the whipping post, the cross. Every stripe paid a price for sickness and disease. He laid His life down to the point of death until the Father called Him forth! By His power He raised Jesus Christ from the dead so that their was nothing left He didn’t pay for! Poured out! For you my friend! The exchange has taken place!! Your life for His! amazing!!!
It is finished- innocent , yes His blood says you my child, my bride, are innocent made brand new!
