Freshen Up

Reading Time: 4 minutes

After a long trip of traveling I like to freshen up. You can feel so droopy after just riding in a vehicle all day. Just like flowers or a plant that is drooping you can freshen up with some cool, clean water and they perk up, we need refreshing too. Not just our bodies get tired but our souls. Daily God refreshes us. He gives us life. My husband and I have talked how at the end of an especially draining day as we hit the bed exhausted having nothing left in us it seems that we wake up amazingly with new energy. Yes, the rest during our nights’ sleep has replenishes us. God gives us what we need through the night as we are renewed with energy for the next day. The same goes for our spirit and soul. Each and every day our loving heavenly Father provides what we need to be energized.

Releasing all grudges or offenses lightens and frees the soul. If you feel angry or hurt in your heart when someone comes to mind choose to forgive them. This means to release them from payback. Set them free. Give it over to God. Let it go and trust God. Boundaries with people who do you harm are a good idea but I am talking about your heart attitude towards them. Let you heart be clear and unburdened. By doing this you are actually being the one set free and can go about enjoying your life.

Romans 12:17-21

Repay no one evil for evil, but give thought to do what is honorable in the sight of all. If possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all. Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave it to the wrath of God, for it is written, “Vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord.” To the contrary, “if your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink; for by so doing you will heap burning coals on his head.” Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.

Mark 11:25

And whenever you stand praying, forgive, if you have anything against anyone, so that your Father also who is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses.”

Refueling our bodies daily with proper rest is something we are all aware of. Refueling that inner person within your soul, now that I’m not so sure everyone thinks is a daily need. It is. You could pray like this to our heavenly Father:

God, I come in the name of your Son Jesus Christ and ask you, the God of hope, to fill me with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit I may abound in hope. Romans 15:13 Fill me with your love and let it overflow to others as I go through my day. Help me to see anything in my heart that is wrong and cleanse me of it I pray. I ask to be filled with Your Spirit so I can produce the fruit of the Spirit which is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Galatians 5:22 Thank you for your grace and love. I open my heart to You and receive Your love that is poured out to me. This hope you put in my heart does not put me to shame, because Your love has been poured into my heart through the Holy Spirit who has been given to me. Romans 5:5

Renewing our souls comes through prayer and the Word of God. The Bible reveals Jesus Christ to us. It washes over our souls. It teaches us kingdom living. Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her to make her holy, cleansing her by the washing with water through the word. Ephesians 5:25-26 Reading our Bible reveals God’s love for us. He instructs us “to put off your old self, which belongs to your former manner of life and is corrupt through deceitful desires, and to be renewed in the spirit of your minds, and to put on the new self, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness.” Ephesians 4:22-24

It renews our minds and we start operating in the kingdom of God.

We are also instructed to “not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect.” Romans 12:2 We renew our minds and are souls are renewed. God’s Spirit does the work in us as we read the Bible and open our hearts to the revelation it shares. Victory over your mind will come from spending time with the Lord, relying upon the Spirit, and renewing your mind with God’s Word. God so deeply loves you. His loving goal is to conform you into the image of Christ. God is constantly working to mature us in Christ and renew our mind. Isn’t that glorious! Just think about the precious work of the living God in your life! Being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.” Philippians 1:6

So release everything that hurts you to Jesus, refuel yourself in the Holy Spirit and renew yourself in the Word of God. You will be amazed at the energy you will have. Repeat daily!
