Grateful In the Moment

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Having a grateful attitude isn’t our first response to certain situations and is often easier said than done.

The Bible tells us in 1 Thessalonias 5:16-18 to , “Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” Sure this is easy to do when life is going well but what do you do when you’re experiencing a painful, challenging, or faith-testing season?

I‘ve learned that our perspectives on situations matter more than we think and the words we speak & believe determine how we respond to everything around us. We have all endured something that has shaken our faith in life, perhaps we have lost a loved one, went through a divorce, received a terrifying diagnosis, lost a job, & the list can go on and on.

Our focus determines our attitude, whether positive or negative, and shapes our response and perspective on how we react. Do you tend to complain, fall into a pity party, or have self condemning thoughts when negative things come your way, or do you try to see the best in every situation? Some may say I’m a positive person and that I tend to see the best in situations, however, there are time when I have to redirect my thoughts and focus back on God and His word because of the pressures and demands of this life.

We cannot control everything that comes our way in life, but we are able to control how we react and respond to situations.

Being grateful in the moment takes practice, it’s changing our attitude and perspective to seeing things the way God views situations and outcomes. Being grateful during those hard times will challenge our faith and doesn’t always come naturally, however, will also shift our way of thinking and help us become more like Jesus. We are able to rejoice always because we learn that there is always something to be thankful for in that moment or during that season & that God is faithful.

I want to share my daily practice with you & I encourage you to turn this into a habit.

Write down 3 things that you are grateful for in this “moment” & reflect on those 3 things for the rest of the week. Meditate on these 3 blessings when something difficult or challenging comes your way. My perspective has changed a lot by practicing this simple exercise.

God has an amazing plan for your life & you’re right in the middle of it! We can definitely rejoice in that promise!

Please let us know what we can be in prayer with you for ♥️
