Safety Valve

Reading Time: 3 minutes

On pressure cookers the nozzle of the valve senses whenever there is an increase in the overall pressure inside the cooker. When the pressure is more than the predetermined levels, the valve’s disk begins to lift to allow an outlet for the steam to escape. Have you ever felt pressure build up inside? The Holy Spirit helps us to depressurize!

Life can sometimes build to a pressure point of eruption in us. When this happens if we don’t pay attention to that pressure valve and let “some steam off” we can hurt others or even ourselves. If we do not release the boiling within our emotions an eruption of angry words may proceed and do great harm. “How can I get relief from this pressure in life?” you ask.

When you have God in your life He is always patiently guiding you. He is on your side and will help you with anything you face. Praying, reading your Bible and meditating on scripture all help relieve stress.

Anger commonly accompanies anxiety because the pressure can make you feel frustrated and tempted to fight back. Be angry, . . but do not sin in your anger God tells us in Ephesians 4:26. We all deal with anger. The Holy Spirit produces fruit in us. This fruit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. (Galatians 5:22) Ask Holy Spirit to help you with your anger. He is your safety valve. He can help you have self-control. The other side of anger, when it is pushed down inside, is just as dangerous causing sickness and depression. It will come out eventually. Some even do harm to themselves to the point of having a death wish. Forgiveness is the key here. As we choose to forgive others, to forgive ourselves and even sometimes forgive God, we are set free from the pressure in our hearts.

Come to ME , Jesus says , all who labor and are heavy laden and I will give you rest (Matthew 11:28-30). Rest for your souls. How do I do that? You turn your thoughts to God’s goodness. You open your mouth and have a little talk with Jesus. You practice trusting God. He is good. He is for you. He is with you and will never leave you. You can even visualize handing “your problem” to Him and walk away. Say “thank YOU for taking care of this person/thing I have no control over.” You Cast your cares on Jesus because He cares for you (1 Peter 5:7) Cast your burden on the Lord, and He will sustain you; Psalm 55:22

Remember you can not control everything or anybody. Remember the fruit of the Spirit is SELF- control.

Ā

We are to humble ourselves. We are not God. We are not Holy Spirit JR. We do not run the world. We can’t save anyone. It is GOD who does the work. As we let the Holy Spirit fill us and flow through us we are light and salt and seed-bearers. Jesus is the light in us shining out drawing others to Him and lighting our path. The Holy Spirit in us is the salt preserving us and making others thirsty. And God gives seed to the sowers. As we are in God’s WORD, sharing God’s WORD and loving others it helps us to move forward through life’s stresses and pressure because our focus is not on ourselves but God and others. It is not on everything that is wrong. As we look to Jesus, at His beauty, we remind ourselves of all our blessings. We have a high calling and God takes our hand and walks us through it all.
