Psalm 91:1-2
“He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress, My God in Him I will trust!”
This may be a familiar passage of scripture for many; however, the Lord has been reminding me that He is in control of our lives and that if we “dwell” in His presence, we are completely safe & secure. The Webster Dictionary defines the word dwell as:
1. To remain for a time
2. To live as a resident
3. To exist or lie
4. To keep the attention directed (used with on or upon)
5. To speak or write insistently
There is a yearning inside of each of us to spend more time in the Lord’s presence; however, we get sidetracked with our busy schedules. When we choose to dwell with God, whether by studying His word or worshiping Him with praise and thanksgiving, the atmosphere shifts, and miraculous things begin to change in both the spiritual and natural realms. We learn how to release our fears and anxieties for faith. As we draw closer to God by dedicating time in His presence, we learn that He becomes our refuge (safety or shelter from pursuit, danger, or trouble) and our fortress (a heavily protected and impenetrable building) and that we can trust (firm belief in the reliability, truth, ability or strength) Him.
Oftentimes, we are faced with battles that are too hard for us to fight alone. We are unsure of who to trust, where to go, and who to depend on. He is El Shaddai (God Almighty) who is all-powerful, all-knowing & ever-present in the time of need. This scripture reminds us that God Almighty is our place of refuge and that we can confidently rest in His presence, knowing that He will protect us. God is not looking for perfection, nor is He expecting us to have it all together. He simply desires for us to understand who He is in our lives.
With Love,
Jenn
